Spirulina, so good even Justin Timberlake sings about it!

– What is Spirulina?
Spirulina is algae! Yes, that means from sea!

– What’s the hype?
For starters, Hawaiian Spirulina is a complete protein, meaning it has all the essential acids. Excellent for vegetarians! It’s tallies up to 60-65% protein (compared to fish, which is up to 35% protein).

1 Tsp (3g) of Spirulina contains a rainbow of nutrients which is why Nutrex Hawaii wants you to #ColorYourDiet:

  • Orange: Beta carotene for immune system support
  • Yellow: Zeaxanthin for eye and brain health
  • Green: Chlorophyll for anti-toxin benefits and iron content
  • Blue: Phycocyanin for inflammatory balance
  • More than 94 trace minerals & elements.
  • More antioxidant power then 5 servings of fruits and vegetables!

In addition to being an excellent source of protein, Hawaiian Spirulina has been scientifically shown to support a healthy immune system.
More than 200 scientific studies document its broad range of health benefits. Many people have also reported increased energy levels after regular consumption of Spiruilna!

– How is Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina Pacifica grown?
Nutrex Hawaii is located on the pristine Kona coast on the Big Island of Hawaii. Their farm draws on the natural resources that surround them –
abundant warm sunlight, pure deep ocean water and 100% fresh water drawn from Hawaiian aquifers to cultivate Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica and BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin.

Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina

I love adding spirulina to my smoothies, it’s a super easy way to add nutrients. The smoothie recipe below has a great balance of whole grains, produce, and healthy fat. It’s a huge energy booster with tons of healthy benefits, yet it’s extremely delicious! Plus it is really hearty and filling, you won’t be hungry again for hours!

Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina
Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina
Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina
Nutrex Hawaii SpirulinaSuper Spirulina Smoothie
Serves 1

3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup frozen spinach (or 2 cups fresh)
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup rolled oats
2 Tbsp unsalted almonds
2 Tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 Tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina Pacifica powder
1/2 tsp vanilla
6 drops liquid stevia or other natural sweetener
6 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy cold.
Note: If you do not have a high powered blender such as Vitamix or Blendtec, start by blending the hard ingredients (i.e. almonds, oats, and spinach) with the almond milk to ensure they are thoroughly blended. Then gradually add the other ingredients. You could use a Tbsp more of almond milk or water to get the blender running smoothly because this smoothie is rather thick.
Side Note: If your blender cannot handle almonds at all, substitute for 1 Tbsp of unsalted almond butter.

Nutrex Hawaii SpirulinaNutrex Hawaii also offers Spirulina Pacifica in tablet form. I prefer the powder because I like adding it in smoothies and to some of my kale chips recipes!
Be sure to checkout their BioAstin antioxidant supplement for joint and tendon health, skin, brain, & eye health! Since I have tons of food allergies, I love addicting this to my diet for added benefits!

I have used spirulina before and love it! I add it to smoothies in the morning for my breakfast, or as after-workout nutrition boost. Spirulina adds a slightly sweet taste to fruit smoothies, along with a beautiful deep green color (it’s wonderful in a smoothie with frozen pineapple and frozen peaches), and as a vegan, I am crazy about the fact that it is a complete protein! Another great way to incorporate spirulina into your diet is to make a sauce out spirulina, a bit of peanut butter, some almond milk, and some agave and drizzle it over fresh sliced fruit, then top with shredded coconut. So many benefits, you can’t really lose!

Just the name is fun to say who wouldn’t want to try it 🙂 I LOVE spinach smoothies and sneaking in as many veggies as possible, adding in Spirulina would make my mornings that much more nutritious, energetic and filling. Also the powder form would be great to sneak into other things like homemade protein snacks, soups, and maybe even the ‘healthier’ versions of banana/ zucchini bread.

Now I really need to jump on this. Haha. Seriously, though, thanks for the coupon/discount! I want to win because I’ve never tried Spirulina before and am super interested! Also, I live in an area where it is oftentimes hard for me to find “exotic” foods and supplements like these in the stores. It would be great to not have to pay shipping to try something new 🙂

    Dear Bunny,

I’d love to win the Spirulina prize pack to enhance my overall well-being and help me heal from the inside out. I am diagnosed at a young age with a herniated disc. It’s painful, inflamed, and often prevents me from being as active as I’d love. I’ve done a lot of research and have hear Spirulina is an amazing treatment for inflammation and I am hopeful it can help me manage my pain. I’ve tried vegetarian, and gluten-free diets and have recently finished a 30-day green smoothie challenge. I’d love this amazing opportunity to take my commitment to vitality to that next level and to share with my social network.

    Love a bunny-in-training <3

I have actually never purchased it! I have it all the time from restaurants/juice bars but I haven’t been able to get my hands on some! My instagram is @sweetsimplevegan and I love posting recipes and ideas for those interested in become happier with a healthy lifestyle. I want it so I can incorporate it into my recipes and posts, review it, and allow a more personal take on spirulina to my followers, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones of food and try amazing health beneficial products like a “crazy green powder” such as spirulina.

I have tried different products with spirulina in them and I have been disappointed. If I were to win this, I’d be able to play around with it myself and make something delicious!

I have been trying to incorporate healthy supplements ito my diet. I started with wheat grass and hope to move up to spirulina! I’ve been looking for a high quality powder form…this one looks great! 🙂

Hi! I am a vegetarian and huge fan of protien smoothies! I currently use Spirutein Protien Powder and love the taste and energy boost but would love less sugar in my breakfast!!!!! I’ve tried almost every protien powder out there but have never thought to just do the spirulina itself!!! As a health and fitness enthusiast I’d love to share the knowledge about Spirulina!!

I really want my family and I to start getting healthy. My parents both have high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and I’m at risk too! I’ve been slowly getting us to eat healthier and exercise a bit. Some protein (spirulina) would help us make easy, quick, and healthy breakfasts!!

Yipes! I used to consume spirulina as well, until I learned more about it. Have you seen the new research on it? Take a look here – http://nutritionfacts.org/video/update-on-spirulina/ and also here – http://nutritionfacts.org/video/update-on-spirulina-2/. I had even just bought a brand new bag! I guess the more we know, but I’m sure everything in moderation. I just wanted to hopefully enlighten you to the more recent studies and research on spirulina. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer! 😉 Cheers!
