All Green Everything

Hi loverbuns!

Just incase you were wondering, yes the title of this post was inspired by Young Jeezy’s song “All White Everything.” I couldn’t resist.

I’m writing to you from San Francisco, CA! I’m here speaking at Produce for Better Health’s Annual Conference 2013: The Consumer Connection! I’ve been enjoying the past few days in the city trying some fun restaurants, meeting new friends, and walking up lots and lots of hills! My gluteus and calves are going to look superb when I get home. My stay in San Francisco have been incredible and I feel so lucky to be a part of DOLE and work alongside such talented bloggers like Kathy Patalsky of Healthy. Happy. Life. I will get into more detail and post photos from the conference when I get back!

Ok I don’t know what it is, but recently I have been absolutely obsessed with all things green. Maybe because it’s March and St. Patrick’s day is on Sunday? Oh, and I’m not just talking about the color. I’m talking about micronutrient rich green veggies my friends.

For the past week, I have been living off of clean green meals. I’m pretty sure this obsession is all thanks to Suja Juice (ummm how cute is their packaging?), who sent me a shipment of their finest USDA certified organic cold pressed juices. Which ones do I go for first? The vibrant emerald green juices!

Some of you have been asking on Instagram, Twitter, and FacebookWhere do I find Suja Juice?” Suja informed me of their awesome Suja Locator feature on their website! Just type in your zipcode and it will show you where it’s carried!

Here’s a look at my recent green rabbit food addiction:

And in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, I have to leave you guys with an awesome green monster smoothie recipe! This is one of my absolute favorite green smoothies, and it totally deserves some love. So I’m bringing this recipe back out of the archive! This was created by the incredible Chef AJ, and I have been hooked ever since she first made it for me. This smoothie is an excellent “first green smoothie” for anyone who is hesitant to try them.

Juice Challenge: Day 5

Hola Conejitos!
Feliz Shrinko de Mayo!
I hope everyone is celebrating with tons of raw heart healthy avos!

Now onto the Juicinggggg! Day 5 flew by!
I had so much fun playing with my new Breville juicer last night that I made a Shrinko de Mayo fiesta of rainbow juices! I loved ALL of my juices today! WOOOO!

Emotions & Hunger:
Drinking only juice is getting progressively easier. Maybe because I jut got a new juicer and am so pumped to use it? I’ve been feeling great physically, and love not having to drink 2 cups of coffee to get through the day. I will definitely be incorporating juice in my regular diet because it makes me feel healthy and refreshed. I have also noticed that my skin has been more dewy and fresh than usual. All of these micronutrients I’ve been taking in seem to be helping!

1/2 lemon

Mean Green

6 Kale Leaves
1 Cucumber
4 Celery Stalks
2 Green Apples
1/2 Lemon
1 small piece of ginger

Juice Critique:
For The Love Of Kale: I had an overload of green juice in the past couple of days, so I wanted to make some sweeter juices that still incorporate veggies. I love the combination of apple & carrots. It was so sweet that I could’t even taste the kale!

Spring Beet: Ok you guys, I am trying so hard to use up the rest of the beets left in the fridge and well… I did it. The first beet drink that I actually liked! I started with my favorite new base of apples and carrots, and then added in some beet and parsley. It was sweet and fresh and I actually loved it! So glad I didn’t give up on the beets!

From A to P: Apples, carrots, & parsley oh my! my favorite sweet combo and some parsley, yummmm!

Sherbet Lemonade: DELICIOUS! I was so happy with the outcome of this one. It tasted like rainbow sherbet! This would make such a yummy summer cocktail over ice! R&R: Refreshing & Raw. Mmmm!

Mean Green: This is Joe Cross’ original juice from the film “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.” I had the same reaction that most taste testers had in the film: “This isn’t too bad!” Considering all of the greenery that is incorporated in this juice, I was worried, but the lemon, apple, and ginger added a great balance to the veggie taste. I’m not sure if I could drink this juice 6 times a day for 60 days like Joe, but I did like it!

Loved these juices so much, I cannot wait to make more!

Juice Challenge: Day 4

4 Days of Juice Down!
I got my new juicer today and it is AMAZING! I ordered the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain from Amazon and it came overnight!
It has so much power it can juice whole apples and citrus! I even did a test and ran the pulp through again and no juice came out because the pulp was dry! This is the real deal! I am so glad I invested in a nice juicer, because I am definitely getting my money’s worth, and I will save so much on fruits & veggies now!

Emotions: I was really busy responding to emails and phone calls all day today, and spent a lot of time working on my DIY Fashion Friday project for you guys. I did just fine with all of my juices, and didn’t have time to think about wanting food to chew on. The juices were actually quite convenient for my busy day while I worked. I have to say that juice is getting kind of boring though. I miss cooking my rabbit food! Plus tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and I’m going to miss out on all of the yummy tacos and guac! Wahhh! To break the cleanse or not to break the cleanse?

Hunger: Kept busy and made it through the day just fine. I started to get intense cravings for something sweet after dinner, so I brewed a hot cup of tea and started reading my new book to distract myself.

Green Machine:
makes 3 servings

3 green apples
15 carrots
15 leafs dinosaur kale
3 cup spinach (packed)
1 cucumber
23 stalk celery
15 sprigs Italian parsley

Lean ‘N’ Green
makes 3 servings

1 head romaine
2 green apples
8 dinosaur kale leaves
6 stalks celery
1 large cucumber
8 carrots
1 lemon

Juice Critique:
Green Machine: This is one of the original juices I made on my first day of juicing and I have come back to it a few times.

Lean ‘N’ Green: I really enjoyed this juice yesterday, but thought it could use some apple to sweeten it up a but, so I added 2 apples today.

Skinny Bunny Cleanse

If you need to reset your taste buds, jumpstart on your weight loss, or need to get ready for a big event, this high fiber whole food cleanse will have hopping into those skinny jeans in no time.
You will get to enjoy a beautiful breakfast scramble, layered lunch parfait, delectable dinner salad, and satisfying snack smoothie.
I do not recommend exercising during the cleanse, since it does not provide enough calories.

In comparison to popular all liquid juice cleanses, a cleanse that is high in fiber is much easier to stick with as fiber keeps you feeling full and satisfied and never deprived.
Each food selected on for the Skinny Bunny cleanse is packed with fiber. Did you know that raspberries contain around 9 grams of fiber per cup?!
Fiber slows the rate at which sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream keeping your blood glucose levels from rising too fast. It also cleanses your colon, acting like a little scrub brush. This scrubbing effect helps clean out bacteria and other buildup in your intestines. Fiber also helps to keep bowel movements regular to avoid bloat.

All you need are these 5 versatile fiber packed foods and 5 days of commitment.

Raspberries
Spinach
Almonds & Almond Butter
Egg Whites
Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt
Note: 1/5 package of Tofu can be substituted for eggs & yogurt for a vegan option.

Space meals 3-4 hours apart and drink 8-10 glasses of water and an optional 2 cups of green tea per day. No soda, coffee, or added sugar.

BREAKFAST:

¼ cup egg whites
1 cup spinach
1 cup raspberries
2 Tbsp sliced or slivered almonds
cinnamon

Scramble egg whites  with 1 spinach. Add any salt free seasonings such as black pepper, turmeric, or garlic to taste.
Place raspberries in a separate bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon and top with 2 Tbsp of almonds.

Tip: for breakfast I recommend using frozen chopped spinach.

LUNCH:
6oz plain nonfat Greek yogurt (single serve container)
1 cup raspberries
2 Tbsp sliced or slivered almonds
cinnamon

Layer the bottom of a jar or bowl with half of the Greek yogurt, then add half of the almonds, half of the raspberries, sprinkle with cinnamon, and repeat layers once more to create a parfait.

Tip: I like to make my lunch parfait in the morning inside of a glass jar using frozen raspberries. This way I can leave it in the fridge and the raspberries are defrosted just in time for lunch.

DINNER:
2 cups of fresh spinach
¼ cup egg whites
1 cup raspberries
2 Tbsp sliced or slivered almonds
1 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar or Balsamic Vinegar
Splash of lemon juice
Pepper

In a large bowl, combine the fresh spinach, raspberries, and almonds. Toss with your choice of vinegar and a splash of lemon juice. Then scramble egg whites and add on top of the salad. Add pepper to taste.

SNACK/DESSERT:
6oz plain nonfat Greek yogurt
1 cup raspberries
1 Tbsp almond butter (unsalted and unsweetened)
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp pure vanilla extract
3 Ice cubes
splash of water

Combine Greek yogurt, raspberries, almond butter, cinnamon, vanilla, and ice cubes in a blender. Add small amounts of water until preferred thickness is desired. Blend away and enjoy.

Tip: Use frozen raspberries
