Seattle {Part Deux}

On our second day in Seattle, we spent most of our time downtown exploring. We started off at Pike Place Market and made our way to the first Starbucks! Although I heard this isn’t actually the very first Starbucks… apparently the original (where they started roasting coffee) was in a building just a few blocks north that is no longer there.

The weather was absolutely perfect while we were out, Seattle is so gorgeous!

Visiting-Seattle-10Matt, Olivia, the boys and I walked around Pike Place for a while and stopped for a snack at The Crumpet Shop and lunch at Beecher’s for some Spicy Mac ‘n’ Cheese! Beecher’s Mariachi Mac and Cheese has roasted Anaheim chiles, a blend of fresh veggies and Beecher’s award-winning Flagship cheese. I loved the spicy, south-of-the-border kick! A must try for mac and cheese lovers!

Visiting-Seattle-6 The boys loved the Market Theater Gum Wall. It’s a local landmark in Post Alley under Pike Place Market. Colorful, icky, and pretty!

Visiting-Seattle-13The line went outside of the store but it wasn’t too bad, we only waited about 10 minutes max. Look how tiny it is! As you can see, there isn’t a lot of room for storage!

IMG_0344Later in the day, I had the honor of visiting the PR team from Evolution Fresh at Starbucks Headquarters while I was in Seattle.

Starbucks-Vegan-Evolution-Fresh-Real-Fruit-SmoothieWhile I was at Starbucks HQ (ummmmm, so cool!) my girl Lynae taught me the BEST healthy Starbucks trick in Starbucks history! She showed me how to get a real fruit, vegan smoothie AT STARBUCKS! All you need to do is buy a bottle of Evolution Fresh (I chose “Defense Up“), and a banana, and ask your barista to blend it with ice for you! They can even add whey protein powder for you! My mind was completely blown. This is my new go to travel meal. I wish I knew about this sooner, I’m seriously so excited!

Now I’m currently in Dallas!
Can anyone tell me some awesome healthy restaurants and places to go?!

Seattle {Part Un}

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been traveling a lot recently. I’m admitting right now, that I’ve been terrible at doing travel posts. Most of my trips recently have consisted of loads of mediocre iPhone photos, but this time I decided to bring my shmancy camera along with me so I could share what I’ve been up to on my blog!

I spent the past 4 days in Seattle with Matt visiting his sister Olivia, her husband Michael, and their little babes Nixon and Maddox. I cannot tell you how badly I have been craving fall weather. It hasn’t been under 75 degrees in southern California in the past few months and all I’ve wanted to do is wear beanies, scarves, boots, and make veggie soups! Seattle was the best change of scenery to get my fall fix. It was a high of 60 each day with a few showers here and there. This was my first time in Seattle, and I fell in love. Everything is so lush and green, and there’s endless amounts of amazing restaurants.

On our first day in Seattle, Olivia and Michael took us to a pumpkin patch. I feel like a really excited toddler when I talk about this, because this was my first REAL pumpkin patch. Where I am from, Pumpkin patches are pretty… lame. They’re essentially just a pile of pumpkins sitting near two haystacks, and most of them take credit cards. But this pumpkin patch was the real deal that most of us California kids don’t get to experience – the kind that only takes cash, has pumpkins still growing on the vine, a corn maze, tractor rides, and home made kettle corn. You’re probably sitting at your computer right now laughing at me because you’ve grown up going to awesome pumpkin patches, but this experience made me so happy!

Seattle-1

Seattle-2 The first thing we did was a 5 acre corn maze (my friend Jocelyn from Iowa would be so proud!). When we entered, they gave us the choice of either Seahawks trivia or US history questions to get us through the maze. Since none of us are Seahawks fans, we opted for US history. I instantly remembered why I got a C in this subject my freshman year of high school. If the group had to rely on me to get out of the maze, we would be there for days. 45 minutes and miles of walking later, we made it out alive.

Seattle-15 Nixon and Maddox couldn’t wait for the maze to be over so they could go see the animals and play with the bubbles on the farm at the patch.

Seattle-5 Matt’s mad bubble skills.

Seattle-6 This was one of our favorite photos from the day. Matt and Michael were getting really into the bubbles, so I was trying to take suh-weeeet artistic photos of them, and right as I snapped this shot, Michael photobombed Matt’s bubble, behind another bubble! Such. good. timing.

Seattle-9 I love this shot of Maddox sitting on the giant pumpkin in his little rain boots.

Seattle-11 The boys LOVE tractors and sat and watched the tractor drive us around the entire pumpkin patch.

RFFMBT Goes To NYC

If you’ve wondered why there’s been a lack of posts recently, it’s because I took a full on vacation for the first time since forever! I went to Toronto, Canada,  then it was my birthday, and then I went to New York! I usually work while I’m out of town, but this time I decided that I needed time to enjoy and relax. Of course I can’t really relax and not work – that would be preposterous! So I ended up visiting with some of the PR girls that I work with and of course my beloved Chobani!

My trip started off with a drive to LAX and then a flight to Boston and then Newark where my friend Matt’s amazing friend picked me up.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-1
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-2 Right after I flew in, we went to Bubby’s in Tribeca for brunch.
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-16How handsome is this guy?! ^

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-3I had an amazing lentil burger with fresh vegetables, pickled daikon, and carrot on a whole wheat bun. I’ve never made lentil burgers before but I need to! Expect a recipe coming up soon.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-33Later we went to a bar with a few of Matt’s friends and of course I sat at a table with the lyrics to “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. Too good – I love Disney!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-4After I saw Matt, I went to stay with my friend Dominique. We were roommates together at FIDM in downtown LA and became inseparable. It was love at first sight. I don’t know if I’ve ever told this story on my blog before, but when Dom and I first moved into our assigned rooms in student housing, we both had the exact same Hello Kitty toaster, and the rest was history. It was a serious bonding moment right there. Hello kitty is responsible for his friendship!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-5
Dominique lives in a cute neighborhood near the Upper West side with her wiener dog Izzie, and roommate Kat. Dom works in fashion (you might recognize her from Bravo’s The Fashion Show). She’s so talented, inspiring, and an incredible friend. Even though we live thousands of miles away, we talk daily, and when we see each other, it’s like no time has passed. Of course we were up until 4am nightly sewing and working just like old times. I love her little Japanese style living room, this is where we had roommie dinner and movie nights together.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-6
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-7I love her little nugget, Izzie! When she was born in 2007, we snuck her into our dorm room and she stayed with us for a few days. Such rebels. She’s such a love bug. I spent most of my trip with my hair up in a huge bun and no makeup. It was seriously H-O-T the sat few days!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-8
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-13RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-13
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-14Dominique’s roommate Kat made us an amazing dinner the first night I stayed with them. Dominique and Kat love eating healthy, so it was fun to cook together and get inspired. Kat made the best sweet potato I’ve ever had. You may notice, I never make potato recipes on my blog because I have never liked potatoes. I know, I know, some call it weird, some call it lucky haha, but Kat totally won me over with her over the stove sweet potato recipe that I will share on the blog soon.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-9After dinner I swaddled Izzie and she fell asleep like this for about 20 minutes. I’ve done this to her ever since she was a baby. She loves being cozy! P.S. If you were wondering, Matt gave me those Miley leggings, they’re hilarious and I have to wear them to spin haha.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-10While I was in NYC I got to meet up with my friend Amy who used to work at Chobani! Amy and I were email buddies when I first started working with Chobani, and then I got to meet her in person at a Chobani dinner over a year and a half ago! We totally clicked and kept in contact, so when I was in NY we had to get together. We went to Pure Food and Wine, which I had been dying to try since Kathy (Healthy Happy Life) told me all about it. Amy is obsessed with the S&M salad, so of course I had to try it. Fresh salad greens, avocado, hemp seeds, dulse, and pumpkin seed lemon dressing served with dehydrated rosemary crackers. I NEED the recipe for those crackers. they’re amazing.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-12Later that day I met up with my friend Michael in Union square and he took me to La Colombe for coffee. La Colombe has seriously rich, strong coffee. It reminds me on Intelligentsia in Silver Lake, CA. Perfect coffee, no flavors, or fancy things. Just good coffee.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-11After visiting with Amy and Michael I went and checkout out the Union Square Farmers Market. So much produce and super low prices! If you live near Union Square, you have to check it out. It’s open Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8am-6pm.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-15On my last day in the city I woke up to breakfast made by Dominique.  She’s the BEST! Such a sweet girl!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-17She even carried my suitcase down 5 flights of stairs. That’s love!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-18I was invited by my friends at Chobani to visit the Chobani Cafe in Soho. I’ve been wanting to visit since it first opened, and now I’m so envious that we don’t have one on the West Coast. This place is brilliant and designed so perfectly. I was told that Hamdi Ulukaya (the founder of Chobani!) was at Chobani Soho just a few minutes before I arrived and he tried to stay to meet me but had to run to a meeting! I almost cried. I don’t get starstruck, but I had a Chobani fangirl moment. Chobani is one of the fastest growing companies, EVER. It’s safe to say that Chobani is the Apple of yogurt and that Hamdi is pretty much Steve Jobs of the industry. Their technology, direction, enthusiasm, and care have built an unstoppable brand. I have to meet Hamdi next time I am in NY!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-23I had the honor of meeting the chefs who brought out 3 delicious Chobani Greek Yogurt Creations!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-24

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-25From the savory menu: Mango + Avocado: mango, avocado, jalapeños, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, fresh cilantro, and lime juice, served with blue corn tortilla chips.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-26From the sweet menu: Toasted Coconut + Pineapple: fresh pineapple, toasted coconut flakes, crushed hazelnuts, topped with light agave nectar.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-27My absolute favorite: Fig + Walnut: dried figs, walnuts, with drizzled with clover honey.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-32Dom loved the Fig + Walnut as well!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-28My favorite part of the cafe is that there is a little Evil Eye embedded in the wall in the upper left hand corner. You wouldn’t really notice it unless you we’re really looking, but it was the first thing that I saw. My Armenian grandmother was obsessed with char atchk (evil eye in Armenian). She carried one everywhere she went, and she made my sister and I have them with us at all times. I still have one on my keychain, and one on hanging on my door in my room. It’s something that’s always been special to me, so seeing it in the restaurant reminded me of my grandmother.
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-30
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-30RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-30When I was on my way to JFK, I saw this sign to the right of the highway. It was the perfect exit from the city and reminder to always eat real food, which is what this blog stands for.

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-31The second I landed it was back to business for me! I printed out packing slips, shipping labels, and started packing up Eat More Rabbit Food shirt orders for all of my little bunnies! Your support is unbelievable! I still cannot believe how fast these shirts sell! It makes me so happy to know that so many of you are so passionate about healthy eating and rabbit food!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-36

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-34 RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-36
RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-35Thankfully I have a super cute assistant to sing “lalala” and smile while I pack orders! My friends have the prettiest babies, I love when Celina and her little one Miss Laila Rose come over to hangout!

RFFMBT-goes-to-NYC-37
I hope that everybunny had an amazing Labor Day weekend!
Now I’m back to packing and shipping Labor Day Sale orders and creating some recipes for this week!

Stagecoach 2014

Last weekend I went to Stagecoach with 2 of my friends!
We headed out to the desert on Thursday night for a seriously fun girls weekend!

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m the WORST packer. I always leave it to the last minute and end up throwing my entire closet in a suitcase instead of pre selecting outfits. My friend Taryn always gives me a hard time because I always have the 60 pound suitcase. Speaking of 60 pound suitcase, sometimes as I’m lifting my gigantic suitcase into the car I take a second and think WOW, I lost 20 pounds more than this suitcase. I cannot believe I was carrying around that much extra weight at one point. It’s really eye opening when I have these “whoa” moments, and it makes me feel that much more proud.

Stagecoach-2014-2-Chobani-Simply-100-American-Flag-Bikini

My go to protein snack of choice is Chobani Simply 100. Each container is only 100 calories, 12g of protein, and made with only natural ingredients. It’s sweetened with monk fruit, stevia and evaporated cane juice.

Stagecoach-2014-Margaritas-in-Mason-Jars-with-StrawOf course the weekend was filled with tons of skinny margaritas! My friend Julia used her Silhouette Machine to make vinyl stickers with our names for our Mason Jars with Straws!

These super fresh, skinny margaritas made with fresh lime juice, orange juice and agave nectar.

Stagecoach-2014-5-Day-1After brunch we went back to the hues and relaxed before getting ready for our first day at Stagecoach.

Stagecoach-2014-7-Southern-Fried-VeganOf course I found “Southern Fried Vegan” within seconds of entering the venue. Love that they have vegan food and even gluten free options! How cool is that?

Stagecoach-2014-6-Day-1
Stagecoach-2014-10-Day-2-OutfitsDay two outfits! The temperature was expected to drop to the low 60’s, so we all went with jeans and sweaters. Never thought that would happen at Stagecoach, where it’s usually in the 100’s during this time of year!

Stagecoach-2014-11-Toasted-CornI am addicted too roasted corn, so I had a hay day (ha ha ha) with it! I made my poor friends walk the entire perimeter of the venue (which is huge) until we found corn haha. And it was SO worth it!

Stagecoach-2014-12-Day-3-OutfitsDay three outfits! I got my dress from Veronica M and paired it with some white lace shorts underneath. Advice to anyone going to an outdoor concert in the desert that may have high winds, please wear shorts haha! We saw WAY too much booty this weekend lol. The people watching was out of this world. Better than Disneyland!

Stagecoach-2014-12-Fruit-Smoothies-and-Young-CoconutsOn the last day I found a smoothie stand with rest fruit smoothies and young coconuts!

Stagecoach-2014-13-Young-Coconut-WaterCoconut water on a hot desert day? I die. So perf.

Stagecoach-2014-14-Roasted-CornAndddd you can bet I ate more corn in the last day!

Stagecoach-2014-15-Stagecoach-OutfitSuch a fun weekend, I can’t wait for next year!
And can’t wait to wear this Veronica M dress again, it’s my new obsession!

How did you spend your weekend?

DOLE Packaged Foods Summit 2014

I had the honor of attending the DOLE Packaged Foods Summit this year! I’ve been working with Dole fresh for a couple of years now, and I’m really exciting to be working with Dole packaged as well. Dole packaged foods consists of frozen, canned, and other shelf stable items that make healthy eating on the go and in a hurry, simple and easy! I am loving some of their new products and can’t wait to share them with you below!

DAY 1:
All of the bloggers met at Ford’s Filling Station in Culver City, California for a fun night of drinks and ton of food! Chef Ben Ford welcomed us to his fabulous restaurant with an endless amount of hors d’oeuvres!

Dole-Summit-2014-5Mixologist, Jordan from This Girl Walks Into A Bar created the perfect cocktails for our evening in Culver City. Each drink recipe was created with one DOLE packaged item! Her Pineapple Island Cocktail had DOLE Frozen Pineapple Chunks in place of ice for a sweet cooling addition to the drink. The Blueberry Vista Champagne Cocktail also had the addition of DOLE Frozen Blueberries at the bottom, and the Summer Golden Cocktail had delicious DOLE Pineapple Juice!

Dole-Summit-2014-10Typical blogger summits equals everyone on social media at all times! #working

Dole-Summit-2014-12I love seeing other bloggers in their element! Pattie from Living Mi Vida Loca was so fun to watch, she is brilliant at arranging food for photographs!

Dole-Summit-2014-11I love hearing how everyone started their blogs! The best part of blogger summits for me is meeting everyone and hearing their personal stories. Some people started their blogs because they went to culinary school, some started because they were diagnosed with food allergies and restrictions, some are simply passionate about cooking, and some like me, started their blog because they lost weight! Each blogger at the summit brought a different strength to the group which was so fun to see.

Dole-Summit-2014-13Ally of Ally’s Kitchen was the winner of the 2013 DOLE California Cookoff recipe contest! She describes her style as “bohemian bold” and “peasant chic!” Loves her! Too cute!

After a fun night at Ford’s Filling Station, we headed to the Four Seasons – Westlake Village to check in and rest up for the big day ahead.

DAY 2:
We woke up bright and early and headed across the street to the Dole headquarters, which is conveniently located just feet across the street from the Four Seasons.

We had the pleasure of meeting Brad Bartlett, President of Dole Packaged Foods! He joined us for breakfast and the rat of the day at DOLE!
Dole-Summit-2014-19
We ate breakfast outside and then gathered in the official DOLE test kitchen! This is where all of the DOLE recipes are made and well… tested!
Dole-Summit-2014-20
I love bloggers, we are always on our phones social media-ing it up haha. I had to get a photo of this moment when we were literally all on Instagram sharing the new DOLE products with our followers!
Dole-Summit-2014-17
Dole-Summit-2014-18
One of my fav new DOLE products is DOLE Fruit Squich’ems. Applesauce may seem like a kid’s snack, but these are AWESOME. The BPA free squeeze pack is portable, mess free, and designed so you don’t need a spoon! The produce in DOLE Fruit Squish’ems use a rapid heating and cooling technique made by scientists at North Carolina State. This process kills microbes within 80 seconds which retains 90% of the original vitamins and nutrients versus other processes that have to heat produce for 15 minutes which lowers nutrients and alters taste. This is a brand new technology that doesn’t exist in any products in a grocery store besides these! DOLE wants their products to have the least amount of processing as possible while making it safe to consume from the shelf.

Squish’em Tip: Freeze your DOLE Squish’ems for a slushy like sweet treat, or freeze and throw into your kids lunch boxes in place of ice packs!

Dole-Summit-2014-21
Another favorite product is the new DOLE Shakers. A.K.A. the blender-less smoothie! You may have seen tehese in the frozen fruit aisle of your grocery store, but these are the new and improved Shakers – now with Greek yogurt AND vegetables! As you guys know, I’m addicted to smoothies, especially smoothies with veggies added in! This is a suer convenient way to get a serving of fruit, veggies, and protein rich greek yogurt when you’re on the go and don’t have time to use your blender! All you do is fill it with your juice of choice, shake shake shake, and you have a perfectly blended fruit & veggie smoothie!
Dole-Summit-2014-22
Inside of the Shakers are tiny frozen beads of pre-blended fruits, veggies, and Greek yogurt, kind of like Dippin’ Dots! Since I have a severe berry allergy, I was SOOO happy to find a flavor that I could enjoy! I’m obsessed with the new Pineapple and Mango flavor, which also includes sweet potato and carrots!
Dole-Summit-2014-23
We all filled our Shakers with DOLE Pineapple Juice, but I actually love using fresh orange juice in mine!
Dole-Summit-2014-24
Amelia and Kristy shaking it up!
Dole-Summit-2014-25
Dole-Summit-2014-26
Another new product that I was super stoked about are the DOLE Fruit & Oatmeal instant oatmeal cups! Unlike other instant oatmeals that contain dehydrated fruit, these come with fruit packed in 100% fruit juice on top! After heating the oatmeal mixture with water, you pour the fresh fruit and juice into the cup and stir it in!
Dole-Summit-2014-28
Dole-Summit-2014-29
Have you ever wondered why DOLE Pineapple Juice is in a can and never a plastic bottle? I have! and I learned why at the DOLE Summit! DOLE stores their Pineapple Juice in a can to avoid exposure from light which alters the color os fresh juices. Look at a competitor’s pineapple juice on the left and the fresh DOLE Pineapple Juice on the right! the other brand looks like apple juice!
Dole-Summit-2014-27
A very very exciting announcement: Dole is coming out with DOLE Garden Soups! They have short ingredient lists and are made with natural ingredients! We got to sample the Roasted Garlic Tomato Basil soup, and it was to die for. I’m a HUGE fan of tomato soup, and this flavor did not let me down! I cannot wait for these to hit the shelves.
Dole-Summit-2014-31
Dole-Summit-2014-32
I had no idea until the summit, but Dole acquired one of my favorite snack companies Mrs. May’s! I used to be addicted to their Cashew Crunch!
Dole-Summit-2014-34
The Mrs. May’s Crispy Veggie Chips are so good. They’re unlike any “vegetable chips” I’ve had before. They’re made from real vegetables, not vegetable blends, and they’re perfect seasoned and crunchy! We ate the entire bag by the end of the presentation haha.
Dole-Summit-2014-33
After sampling all of the new DOLE packaged foods products in the test kitchen, we all headed to the DOLE cafeteria for lunch. Their cafeteria is really incredible. It’s the healthiest corporate cafeteria I’ve ever been to – everything is made to order, and nothing is pre-made. There were tons of vegetarian and vegan options, and an abundance of fresh produce. If I worked at DOLE HQ, I would never eat anywhere else. Wait until you see my veggie wrap from lunch, you will agree!
Dole-Summit-2014-35
Veggie wrap with hummus, roasted red bell peppers, spinach, chopped tomatoes, avocado, and shredded mozzarella wrapped up in a sundries tomato tortilla and lightly grilled in a panini press.
Dole-Summit-2014-36
After lunch, we walked back across the street to our hotel for some R&R, and I mean real R&R! The DOLE team treated us to spa treatments at the hotel. It was such a dream, and I am so spoiled from the realizing massage.
Dole-Summit-2014-69

Once we all finished our spa treatments, we walked down the street to Lure Fish House where they had a special menu prepared for our DOLE Blogger Summit.
Dole-Summit-2014-37
Dole-Summit-2014-38
I had the most incredible Organic Tuscan Kale Salad. Chopped raw kale mixed with carrots, quinoa, wild rice, red peppers, green onion, and red grapes. Mixed in shaved parmesan and toasted sunflower seeds and tossed with a citrus champagne vinaigrette. Still drooling over here!
Dole-Summit-2014-39
The best part of blogger summits is the ridiculous amount of food photos that we all take, and we all understand. We will literally let our food get cold until we get “the perfect shot.” My family usually tells me to put my phone away, but these ladies get it! I also love the amount of selfies that went on during the summit! Katie and Ally to “selfie” to a whole new level! So cute!

Halfway through dinner, I looked over to see Pattie staging a photo of her dinner with candles from the table for lighting! Amaze!

DAY 3:
I have to say that Day 3 was my favorite day of the summit! We met at the California Health & Longevity Institute Wellness Kitchen where Paulette Lambert, R.D., CDE prepared us breakfast made from DOLE packaged products! The Wellness Kitchen is absolutely stunning. I’ve decided that I NEED a chandelier in my kitchen ASAP! How stunning is the light? Swoon.

Next up we watched Paulette Lambert, R.D., CDE cook our lunch. I LOVE LOVE LOVED watching and listening to Paulette talk about each ingredient she used and WHY she used it! When I make recipes with kind of funky ingredients, I love sharing why that certain food is good for you and how it benefits your health, and that is exactly how Paulette cooks as well! I was mesmerized watching her chop and cook 5 dishes at the same time!
