      I don’t remember this but my parents tell the story all the time. When I was 4 or 5 years old, all I wanted for my birthday was Little Mermaid underwear. So on my birthday (which is tomorrow, Aug 16!) my parents got me loads of toys and the undies and all I did all day was walk around, wearing the undies over my shorts. Apparently, I kept changing them too! Happy Birthday!!!

    Happy Birthday! The craziest thing I ever received for my birthday is a star bought in my name through the International Star Registry. I received a map of where it’s located in the sky and a certificate with the name of the star. It’s fun to think about while looking up into the sky at night, there’s a star with my name.

    My Freshman year of high school some friends of mine pitched in to buy me over 100 balloons and had them delivered to me in the middle of class so I had to walk around with them all day. 😀

    For my 25th birthday I went on my first hot air balloon ride with the love of my life. I was able to use my cell phone and called my mother and grandmother in tears of joy. dreams do come true (:

    I turned 23 in May and my parents surprised me with skydiving!! I had been wanting to skydive forever when I finally jumped it was exhilarating!!

    Happy Birthday!!!! The most unique thing I’ve ever received for my birthday is one of my favorite children’s books of all time, Fifteen by Beverly Cleary. I got it when I was a little girl for my birthday n fell inlove with it. It was an original print copy from the year it was published. Old and vintage, I kept it for years. One day my daughter who was 2 at the time was playing and tore a few pages from it. I was heartbroken. That year, for my birthday my husband got me another copy, he tracked down another vintage copy and surprised me! It’s been my favorite gift ever since. Hope your birthday is just as magical as mine was that year!!!!

    Whether it be the most unique gift or not, my favorite by far was the plane ticket I received from my parents on my 13th birthday to visit my family in California (where I am from). Nothing beats my first plane trip ever, halfway across the country, to see my granparents, aunts/uncles and cousins!

    For my 20th birthday I was deployed with the USAF. Birthdays seem to go unnoticed while you’re deployed so my whole flying crew of seventeen people threw me a surprise party and pitched in to buy me a cake.

    Happy Birthday Catherine! For my 23rd bday my husband & his then boss & friend planned a one night stay on Fisher Island in Miami! Our “room” was bigger than our house! I got to get a pedi at their spa, we jet skiied, champagne & flowers in the room, an ice cream cake in my fave cold stone flavor, a massage in our room… All in less than 24 hours! I felt like a million bucks! It was the most amazing expereince ever! Ps i hope your foot feels better soon- go away skin cancer!

    Happy Birthday to you! I love and was so happy to stumble upon your blog! I’d have to say my most unique gift I got my self when I was younger.. I like you loved rabbits and I always wanted one. My dad said if I could win one at the at the fair I could have one.. so all my fair money went to the bunny game and low and behold I won a little white bunny with specks of brown…she looked dirty, so I named her filthy. She was the Cutest and best birthday gift for a little girl!

    Happy Birthday! The most unique gift I’ve gotten is a box full of cans of black olives. I used to eat all the cans in my moms pantry when I was younger, so she bought me a ton of them one year 🙂

    The year my boyfriend and I met, for my birthday he gave me a new cellphone on a “family plan,” and in another little box he wrapped a change of address card from the post office with a little note that said. It’s official. 🙂

    Happy Birthday to you! Let’s see the strangest thing I have ever received for a birthday gift would be a washing machine from my husband. Lets just say he needed lessons on exactly what an acceptable (romantic) birthday gift might be! I think he finally got it this year though—-surprise concert tickets to see Journey. Our song when we dated was “Open Arms” by Journey! Yeah, he got it!!

    Happy birthday mama bunny!!! Don’t let the number fool you, I bet 23 is a great age! I’m still newly 21, but am excited for the years to come. My most unique (and favorite) birthday present was this past year for the big 21! My family was M.I.A all day..no texts or calls or anything! Until I came back from an afternoon class to find my entire family took over my apartment with decorations, my favorite mommy meal-baked spaghetti, and lotss of celebratory alcohol 😉 I’m so close with my family and miss them so much while i am away at school..it was by far the best gift I could have asked for!! I could not control the waterworks haha. I hope you have a WONDERFUL day pretty girl!!

    Happy Birthday! The most unique thing I’ve ever received for my birthday was when I was 9. I was obsessed with horses at the time and my parents threw me an awesome surprise party. When it came time to open presents, they hauled out a big storage bin with my name on the top, inside was a bunch of horseback riding things. As if I wasn’t excited enough, the card at the bottom of the bin told me I was going away to sleep-away camp for a whole week to ride horses 🙂 I’ll never forget it.

My car broke down on my birthday and my husband comes to pick me up from work in what he tried to call it so he won’t give himself away was a “rental car” but it turned out he bought me my favorite car (a 2000 black, stick shift, VW Jetta, that was 7 years ago).

    For my 16th birthday, my parents gave me a project car. 12 years earlier my dad rode in it the day his friend bought it brand new. My dad and I then spent two years rebuilding it. I still have it 31 years later.

    Happy birthday ! I stumbled across your site this week and can’t get enough! The most unique gift I got was my 30th birthday. My Mother gave me a laundry basket full of 30 individually wrapped gifts. It was so thoughtful and fun! Altho I ave a long way to go, I have lost 34 pounds eating healthy!     The strangest gift I ever received was a 45mm Ruger handgun from my husband. I have never shot a gun in my life! But, three days later for Christmas, he got me a pair of diamond earrings and the Kate Spade purse I had been wanting. He swears to this day that the gun was a gag gift. Hmm.

    The most unique thing I’ve ever received was an army charm bracelet. I took care of my father full-time after high school for a year(he had a brain tumor) and after he died my aunt (his sister) gave me a charm bracelet he gave her during his army days. Well I wore it constantly! It was kinda cheaply made so while at college I had to take it off to write on my spiral notebooks so the charms wouldn’t come off, and one day when the professor called me someone stole it. I was heartbroken! Well my older sister looked on ebay for years until she FINALLY found another, actually better-made, bracelet just like it! She then surprised me for my birthday last year with it (knowing I had given up on it long ago)…it had to be the BEST birthday surprise EVER!!!

    Happy birthday! My most unique birthday present came to me this year when I was wwoofing on a farm in France. I received a signed French fairytale princess book (for ages 8 and up!) and was sung to in 6 different languages (French, German, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and English) while receiving it!

    The craziest thing I received for my birthday was a horse! Well, actually technically a pony (cause I’m short!) I’ve been riding since I was a little girl at different barns all through my area. In my eighth grade I was going through a hard time at school, getting bullied and what not, so my parents wanted to do something extra special for me. I woke up on my birthday and they took me to a barn to look for my perfect horse! He was a beautiful Paso Fino. I had him for quite awhile until he sadly colicked and we had to put him down. Still the best present I ever got, not to mention the best friend 🙂

    My most unique birthday gift was leaving for Costa Rica to be missionaries on my 9th bday! BTW, I am on a weight loss journey of my own…I made your Quinoa salad last week for 7 girlfriends and myself last week at a retreat. It was a huge success and many asked for the recipe. 32 lbs lighter than I was in May!!!

    Happy Happy Happy Birthday!!! My unique gift was from this year. I’m a girl who likes to thrift, craft and up cycle things. This year a friend gave me a box filled with about 15 different sizes of japanese tea cups. I opened the box and thought this is so random but she said “I found these and figured you could do something cool with them”. It was a very thoughtful gift but unique to say the least.

    Happt birthday!!! I seriously LOVE your blog. I’m trying out the whole vegan thing and you make it look sooo yummy. I can’t wait to try more of your recipes. In fact I’m making kale chips tonight. Well the most unique gift I’ve ever gotten was a pair of grannie panties (like big ones that grandmas would wear) and baby oil from my mom. When I asked her what the heck is this and why is this my present she smiled and said one day you will need it. I was thinking what the heck. I found many uses for the baby oil. And during homecoming in our school we used the grannie panties to play a prank. Thanks mom! Without those panties I wouldnt have gotten detention!!…..god

    When I was about 9… my aunt got me a lizard for my birthday! I had no idea… I just opened up this huge box and a real lizard jumped out onto my arm! Freaking almost pooped my pants but it was so awesome and memorable! Silly lizard!

    Happy 23rd Catherine! I received the best and somewhat strangest gift on my 10th birthday. It’s no secret that pretty much every girl/woman on the planet has an obsession with cookie dough and that’s why my tenth birthday cake was so special. My parents surprised me with a full block of prepackaged Tollhouse sugar cookie dough squares adorned with birthday candles. It was the best “cake” ever!

    My birthday is April 27 and I am totally OCD about the numbers in my birthday(anything with 427 or 04271990 catches my eye and makes me do a little happy jig). My senior year of high school, my best friend walked into my first period class carrying a cake, all seventeen candles lit, sitting on top of a huge yellow road sign. She had climbed the pole and unscrewed a county road sign from a nearby town and she presented it to me as my birthday present.. Five years later, the CR 427 sign is adorning the wall of my new apartment (:

    I don’t know that I have ever gotten a truly unique gift, I always get wonderful gifts it is hard to pick one out over my life that stuck out, the best gift is when everyone can get together and celebrate with me, if I had to pick it would be the year I received Eat Clean books and workout equipment that saved me from an overweight depressed self I was!     Happy hippity hoppity birthday! The best gift I have ever had for my birthday was the chance to go to Ireland to study for a semester and spend my 21st birthday in Europe. It was the trip of a lifetime!

    Happy Birthday! The most unique gift I’ve received on my birthday was a movie poster of my all time favorite movie, The Sandlot. When I was younger I was obsessed with these boys, so having this was truly a highlight 🙂

    When I was 4yo, I received an envelope (yes, you read right, a large mail envelope. I guess my parents thought it was easier than wrapping paper), stuffed full of candy. It had gummies and lollipops and so much deliciousness that it blew my mind as a 4yo. Inexpensive but memorable!

    One year my grandmother gave me a little ceramic bird from her collection. I loved that bird, and started hunting for abandoned bird’s nests to give it a home, but I wasn’t able to find one. So, my dad gathered some twigs and made a little nest for my bird. I still have the bird, and the nest, on display in my office.

    You won’t believe this, but the craziest thing I got for my birthday came from my grandmother. A teabag and a pair of granny panties- literally! It was a pair of underwear she was finished with. Something tells me I’m not her favorite grandchild… 🙂

    My boyfriend (now husband) took me pumpkin picking out in Eastern LI (perfect, since my birthday is in October). We had fun picking pumpkins and were excited because the farm was offering a deal of “all of can carry” for $20, until we realized that they meant all that one person can carry. We had picked at least 7 beautiful but large pumpkins and didn’t want to part with them. So with some careful maneuvering, my boyfriend managed to carry all 7 of them in his arms and walked 50 feet to the cashier. Just the sight of that made it one of my most memorable birthdays ever. After that, he took me out to dinner…for lobster!

    HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!!!! My birthday is on the fourth of July, and the year I turned 16, my friends gave me the craziest gift I will never forget. I went over to my friend’s house and a bunch of other friends were there. All of a sudden, the boys at the party ran out of the house and told all the girls to go out on the back deck to watch for my bday present. In my friend’s beautifully manicured Florida lawn, the boys wrote my name HUGE in the grass with gasoline and lit it on fire. KENZIE was burned in their grass and my name was ablaze that night on July 4. BEST AND STRANGEST PRESENT EVER!!!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Birthdays are my favorite. Here where I live we do birthday weeks. Lots of cards and homemade gifts. Im a great gift giver…..not bragging but I always put much thought into giving someone a present because I think it says a lot about how you feel about a person and how special they are. You know the saying you reap what you sow…. well that is not the case in my hand….. So in saying all that……. one year my very good friend got me a hot dog costume……. because she found it funny… you can imagine my shock and facial expressions. I wasnt ungrateful but I think you can tell a lot by the thought process of gift giving. I guess that was the most unique gift but also the worst gift…… so lets remember its the thought that counts. its doesnt have to be extravagent but make it special even if its a homemade card. Which are my favorite.

    My grandma worked for princess house so when I was 8 she gave me princess house perfume bottle and crystal tray, and little trinket jar. She would always get me weird gifts like that for birthday and Christmas, she gave me a vase.
    On the 1st I had my 30th and my husband surprised me with Coldplay tickets, and I had a horrible flu with 102.7 temp, I was miserable but Coldplay rocked it:)my daughter made me a cake out of playdoe( she’s 3). Have a great birthday Cathrine, enjoy 😉

    My boyfriend took a frame from a video of us at a music festival. The frame is just our feet in shoes in the grass. He blew up the picture and photo shopped it so it looks almost painted and had it put on canvas! I loved it.

    It’s funny you’re giving away 23 things for your 23rd birthday! On my 23rd birthday, my brother and his wife gave me a card that said, “We love you! Here are 23 things that remind us of you!” And then they gave me 23 gifts, one by one, to open and state the reason the object made them think of me! Some of the items were purple nail polish because it made my brother think of the time I stepped on his toes when we were little and his toenails were purple from the bruises, cookbook because I love making my food from scratch, a bag of Skittles because I would always get them when we were younger, scrapbooking stuff because I am always scrapbooking and making my own cards, and more! It was an amazing gift! Some presents made me laugh and others made me cry!

    Last year for my 25th Birthday, my boyfriend brought me to Vegas for a few days. The day we got there he told me I needed to come with him to run an errand. He had picked out the Mary Jane style heels for me and had bought them for me as my present. It was the most memorable birthday present ever 🙂

My sister had been born and some people from the hospital gave us each a stuffed animal. She received a pig she named Piggy. And I got a blue elephant which I named Coconut! They threw a surprise party for my brother and I (yes I am a twin) and he lives in another state , and to walk in and see all our childhood friends was fantastic.     The most unique gift I ever got was when I was 8 or 9. Instead of the traditional birthday party/presents, I got cash from my parents (what felt like a TON of money to a young kid) and got to go to the mall to spend it on whatever I wanted! I felt like the coolest kid around!

    The craziest thing I ever received for a birthday gift was a coffee table book about first sexual encounters from my eccentric best guy friend. I received this book on my 18th birthday and opened it in front of many family members. My grandpa was sitting at the table I was opening gifts at and he picked up the book and everyone got kind of quiet, while he flipped through the pages. He finally looked up and said, “well, where are all the pictures?” Every single person burst out into laughter.

    Happy Birthday Catherine! The most unique present I ever received is a hand painted chair from my favorite Mexican Restaurant from home. My sister picked it out for me because we used to love to eat there together and it has a sunflower painted on it (a flower of which I am obsessed with).     The most interesting birthday gift I’ve ever received was a surprise birthday party for someone else, where everyone brought me a stuffed animal, to confuse me even more. (It was actually a party for me, but everyone acted as if it wasn’t, until near the end, someone made mention of it.) Two of my friends banded together to bring me a three foot high and wide fuzzy chick from Goodwill, and paraded me sitting upon it, around the party, while others threw glitter.

    Very odd times. Still confused by it.

    First of all your website is amazing. Love it!
    Second, my most unique birthday gift was not something amazing, fun, or silly.
    A few years ago about 2 days before my birthday, my mom disappeared for about 2-3 weeks. After she got back in contact with us, she told us she was getting a divorce from my father. At that point, I had moved back home practically the next day, after finding out she had left. Just to keep an I on my dad, to make sure he was alright. I grew up a lot the following year and a half, of living with him, and realizing that no one, not even your family is perfect. My father and I also learned a lot about ourselves and what we wanted for the rest of our lives, which ended in him selling the house I grew up in, and my moving to New York City, to follow my dreams. Although I have been thinking a lot about Cali recently. So as it turned out, what I thought was the breaking point of my life/worst b-day ever, really pushed me into being the person I am today. Which I am grateful for.

    The most unique thing I’ve received for my birthday . . . I think it was actually a card! My senior year of high school, one of my guy friends gave me a card aimed at a 4-year-old’s birthday and put all of his spare change in it. It was sweet and goofy, and it totally brightened up my otherwise blah day. 🙂 Often, the silly things in life are the best.

    Happy birthday! When I turned 21, my grandmother gave me a photo album that was a chronicle of my life. It contained pictures from infancy on up, many of which I had never seen before. It was unlike anything else I had ever received. It was wonderful.

    One of my most unique gifts was a surprise party. But all the guest rang my doorbell as a mob and brought all the goodies my husband ordered. Plus it was during a huge snow blizzard. Really fun!!!!

    My boyfriend is in the midst of cobbling parts together for a computer for me. Not very romantic in the traditional sense, but I couldn’t think of a better gift!

This would have been a cool gift had I been six or so but this was for my 17 birthday!!! I still don’t quite understand the logic there- especially since they shipped them from over seas!

    The most unique birthday present I ever received was a pen. I opened the box and thought, “This is odd.” Then my husband told me, “I know you like using my pen, and you love writing and doodling, and you’re going to be going back to school, so Abbey (3 mo/old daughter) and I thought a pen would be a good present.” I opened it up and it was a brushed stainless steel fountain pen. Not what I was expecting, but completely awesome nonetheless.

I think you give a grounded, realistic sense to women out there on what healthy eating “should be” and bring a charismatic approach to encouraging your readers to expand their palettes and try more foods!

    My Birthday is 2 days after Valentine’s Day, so when I was in gradeschool, my dad would send me yellow roses to school and make the order my age + 1 for goodluck + 1 for “good measure” he always told me. So, if I was turning 13, I would actually receive 15 roses.

    That was the most sentimental birthday gift that I have received, but the wierdest gift (but very awesome) that I have ever received on my birthday was a gift box full of cans of black olives. I LOVE both green & black olives, so my mom made it a tradition to start giving me a generous supply of black olives on both my birthdays & also in my stocking at Christmas 🙂

    When my (now) husband and I first began dating, he MADE (from scratch, by himself!) a kaleidoscope for me. I collect kaleidoscopes, and he bought piping, mirrors, etc. and spent hours learning how to make a kaleidoscope work. Then he also made a stand out of glass, took it to his glass-work lab at school, and laser etched an inscription in it! It was a pretty awesome and thoughtful gift!

    Happy 23rd birthday! When you are in your 20’s birthdays just seem to FLY by. I just turned 26 and it feels like just yesterday I was 21! 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful day!
    The most unique gift I got was from my Filipino mother on my 16th birthday….a WHOLE roasted pig with a red apple in it’s mouth! I guess in her culture it symbolizes good fortune and good luck (something like that) but could you imagine all the faces of my friends that came to the party!? They were all shocked and some grossed out. It was delicious though. 🙂

    The most unique thing I ever received for my birthday was 22 pounds of Skittles for my 12th birthday (each friend knew of my Skittles obsession and each got me a couple pound bags). Needless to say, I was a sugar addict, and I devoured all 22 pounds in a mere 2 days! Since then, I’ve learned that a sugar rush of that intensity is not a good idea for my health and my body. I now try to eat my sugar doses in much smaller, more natural portions. Lesson learned! 🙂

    My favorite birthday gift was for my 28th birthday. My boyfriend (now husband!) gave me an early gift a few weeks before after I’d run my first half marathon. It was a new digital camera, but he gave it to me after he took pictures of me running the race. I then had the camera to take pictures around Disney the rest of the weekend!

    When I was 16 I received an envelope pin on a chain with a note that was reminding reminding me to a thank you note for it. (my step grand mother was very adamant about receiving thank you notes). It was a very interesting gift to say the least, especially as a sixteen year old.

    Happy birthday! The most unique/memorable gift I got was a green bike. I remember when I was 7 I wanted this bike that I thought looked like a motorcycle. I could barely ride a bike but I wanted it in green but we couldn’t find it anywhere. Then the morning of my birthday I woke up and there it was in the kitchen. I remember bringing it outside and falling off it lol I still have it though.

    I guess I haven’t had anything really unique…but one year my dad wrapped a HUGE box and left it out for weeks before my birthday. I thought for sure it was a car or something {well…maybe not}. After I opened it I was really upset for him tricking me with a box of NEWSPAPER. Turns out it was a box full of newspaper and money! So not really a unique gift…but an interesting delivery!

    i think the most unique thing that i got on my birthday was a deconstructed old novel from my sister. She ripped out pages and painted others and added buttons and fabric to the front. Then she added pictures of us together and did a spread of her own hands spelling out I Love You in sign language. Then the last part chunk of pages was glued together and cut out so a cd could fit in the book. She said we would trade cds as a secret endeavor.

    Happy birthday! I love your blog & I’m so glad you are addicted to it. My favorite & most unique birthday gift was from my now husband, he got me for my 22nd birthday a coat. It was weird at first but he made sure it was the warmest coat because I’m from California & moved to Montana, so needless to say I’m always cold. He was making sure I had a warm coat.

    I have an aunt who sends the most awesome gifts. For my nineteenth birthday, it was a GAP sweatshirt with the tags still on from the nineties. Twentieth was a Barbie, yes, a Barbie. And twenty-one was a pair of Mr. & Mrs. Claus stuffed potholders. No joke. Opening gifts from her is always exciting; hopefully your birthday brings you the same quirky excitement, lol.

    I don’t know if this qualifies as strangest but it was my most embarrassing birthday present ever..training bras. After my Mom wanted to take a picture with me holding up my present, that was one of my more embarrassing moments. Lol.

    Every few years my birthday falls on Thanksgiving. When I was younger I hated it, because I thought everyone was more excited about the turkey than me lol, now I enjoy it because I’m with the entire family. But the most unique gift I received one year was from my aunt, she saved a bunch of wish bones through the year and while I didn’t get the Turkey’s that year I got 5 and got 5 extra birthday wishes!     The most unique thing I received for my birthday was my 18th! I had just learned to play the guitar the year before and my mom secretly worked every morning and afternoon I was in classes to save and buy me my first guitar! It was the most thoughtful present I have ever received! Not unique to anyone else but the way my mom worked for the money was so sweet! It was and is the greatest gift ever!

    I don’t recall getting anything unique, however each birthday was always special and meaningful. The most important thing to me for each of my birthdays was having my love ones there for my special day. That’s all it really matters to me. 🙂

    Happy birthday fellow Leo! (my bday is the 16th :D) The craziest and most unexpected thing I’ve received for my birthday was probably a memory foam topper for my bed. It was this huge, chunky roll of foam that was shrink wrapped and at first I had no idea what it was. Luckily it has served me well 🙂 hope you enjoy your special day!

    Last year, I moved across the country by myself to Seattle. I had been feeling a little homesick lately. Well, I came home to this huge box from my brother and sister in law back in Louisiana. I opened it up and inside were beautifully wrapped boxes containing months worth of things my sister in law had collected for me. She said when she moved, her mom did the same thing for her. I felt so special. The very best thing was a handmade super fancy feather headband she found in New Orleans that I will wear on my 30th this year. Happy Birthday!!!

    For my 12th birthday my grandma gave me a purse she got at a craft fair.
    It was a jean purse, made from the top part of a pair of acidwash jeans. Literally, someone had cut a pair of jeans at the crotch, sewed it up, added some lace, and a gold chain. Oh Grandma.

    The most unique birthday present I ever got was a thoughtful party thrown in my honor while I was deployed to Iraq in 2008. My Master Sergeant worked with my boyfriend at the time and she gave me a card from my cat and a card from her with a gift certificate for a place on base. He also surprised me with my first diamond, in the form of a necklace that evening. Needless to say he is now my husband and that overall unique birthday experience will never leave my heart.

    Last year my sister gave me these amazing old life science diagrams from old San Francisco city classrooms (she’s a teacher and they were being thrown away). We were camping at the time, so it was so strange to see her cart out these giant (5 ft. wide!) posters on the pull down roll thingy. They are of cool things like a solar system and diagrams of how a fly’s’ eyes work.

    The most unique thing I got for my birthday was a SHARK! My husband adopted a hammerhead named Daisy, I can track her swimming patterns and the money that was used to adopt her aids shark research. She actually swam up by LA and hung around your neck of the woods for a little. 🙂

    My “best friend,” at the time, came to my birthday party with no present. She said, “I have your gift at home, but I couldn’t find a box big enough.” The next month I went to her house for her 8th grade graduation party… As I was leaving, I said, “oh, where’s my gift?” (I figured no need to wrap it, and I had my suspicions that there wasn’t one.) She looked at me with big eyes, and ran upstairs to return with a really cute stuffed reindeer. I said, I love it thanks! Her eyes got even wider, so I took it, and as I walked out with it her little brother says, hey where is she going with my reindeer. I had to laugh, ironically enough, she never talked to ME again after that!

    The most unique gift I was ever given was a hand made pottery wall hanging of my Boston Terrier’s paw prints from when she was 3 months old. I still have it hanging on my wall today and she is 6 this year! It was unique because it was made just for me and the woman who gave it to me doesn’t sell them. Its one of kind! 🙂

    Happy Birthday Girlie! The most unique thing I ever got was a surprise trip to a resort staying in the penthouse suite. My boyfriend told me to get in the car and start driving and gave me directions as I went. The best part was that we weren’t even supposed to have the suite, but they overbooked so my BF somehow sweet-talked management into letting us have it for the night.

    Happy Birthday! The most unique gift I received was an easy bake oven on my 16th birthday. I wanted one so bad when I was little but never got one. I was kidding around with my mom about how my childhood was incomplete without it. The morning of my 16th birthday an easy bake oven was waiting for me in the living room complete with a set of cookie cutters and every type of cookie mix you could buy for the oven. Mom and I had a few good laughs. My little nieces enjoy playing with it now. 🙂

    Happy Birthday!! i love reading your blog, it’s inspired me to want to eat and be healthier. For my birthday one year a friend surprised me with an hour massage, that they had gotten me from a really nice spa/salon.     My most favoritest Birtday present ever is just a simple friendship card my bestest friend made for me this past year for my 25th bday. I told him all I wanted was a card and he put together a story telling of our friendship. We live in different states but he managed to hand deliver it to me on my special day. He talked about how we met and starting hanging out. He mentioned our circle of friends and how sometimes we lose track of eachother but we always manage to reconnect. He even left some empty slots at the end with titles forseeing where our future frienship will be still in tact when we are 30, 40, 50 and 100 yrs. It was so touching. It honestly really touched me. The best presents are the ones that come from the heart and I totally cherrish this one.

    My “unique” gift I guess should be categorized as most meaningful was the Nikon D50 DSLR camera my cousin bought for me as a birthday/graduation gift when I finished college. It catapulted me into photography which I now love and have made a large part of my life 🙂

    the most unique thing i’ve ever received for my birthday was an entire collection of native american literary magazines from the 60s and 70s! my friend heather just randomly found them outside the dumpster by her apartment (sounds weird but people always leave stuff outside the dumpsters that they think other people might want!) and she knew i am native american and that i’m a writer, so she snagged them & saved them for a birthday gift! little did she know i was working on a research paper about native writer’s and was going to have to spend a lot of money ordering copies of these literary magazines for research! it was all around just a perfect gift, in so many ways!

    So I have two answers – the most unique (as in weird) thing I got was a card from my grandma with a stick of gum in it on my 18th bday, and there was no explanation. The most unique (as in awesome) was a cupcake beanie that my friend Chris bought me for my 30th birthday, because I love to bake. He called around for days trying to find it and had to drive from Santa Monica to Riverside just to get it. I was so surprised that he did that.

    Happy Birthday, Leo Girl!

    I received a memory book from my grandmother that details her entire life, from the 1950’s to this year, the year she lost my grandpa, her husband of 60 years. The book took her about a year to do and to read candidly about her life and realize that she was once a young girl, a young woman, and a young wife with the same struggles as I’ve had–that we’ve ALL had–was amazing. And her stories and pictures were hilarious. It’s the best gift I’ve ever gotten and I’ll cherish it forever. the gift of memory is something we take for granted and I’m so excited to share this with my daughter!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHERINE!

    One time, my cousin and I were in a thrift shop and I stumbled across these soccer cleats that I really liked. They were almost brand spankin new, they were a perfect fit, and only five dollars!! Unfortunately, I didn’t have any money on me at the time, so we left the thrift store and I completely forgot about them. Six months later, my cousin sent me a package on my birthday. I opened it up and inside were those soccer cleats!! It was so nice of him to remember them so long after we first saw them :o) It was definitely a unique present that I’ll probably never forget :o)

    Happy Birthday! My most unusual birthday gifts were: a pair of men’s pants (apparently my mom intended them to go to my brother, wrapped them in birthday paper and then forgot who they were actually for), and one year White Rain shampoo and two rolls of paper towels (from my grandmother in law). At least that was fairly useful. I used the paper towels, and I think I used the shampoo on the dog.

    The most unique (well unique to me)birthday present that I got would probably have to be my best friend/puppy Teddy! He is a tiny, precious and playful yorkie and I am crazy about him. I feed him all sorts of veggies and fruits and he LOVES IT! I treat him just as I would a child, he is spoiled beyond belief haha. Anyway there you have it!     For my 19th birthday, I received a locket from my boyfriend (that’s not the original part, though kudos to him for remembering that I mentioned I really wanted one once about 6 months before). He used a sparkly Disney princess sticker to tape the locket inside an old copy of “The Clue of the Broken Locket”, a favorite of mine in the Nancy Drew series from when I was a kid!

    Happy birthday!

    I just recently (3 months in) moved on a whim to Charlotte, NC from Pittsburgh, PA for a job. I was having a rough time not being close to my friends and family and received a care package/early 25th birthday present from my friend of 12 years. It was full of treats and memento’s from the past 12 years of our friendship that I was surprised to see she had even kept, she even put together a scrapbook of all our crazy years together. She had also filled the box with treats to satisfy my sweet-tooth fix (candies and home-baked biscotti and lemon blueberry bread…LOVE anything lemon), as well as LEMON candles, tea, cupcake goodies to bake with, dry roasted edamame (nom!), and much more! I feel lucky to have such a great friend, regardless of how far we are from each other. I hope everyone has someone who knows them as well as my friend does and supports them. Anytime I need a pick me up or good laugh, I just look at the scrapbook she sent me now and chuckle at the innocence of childhood 🙂

    Favorite thing I received was last year for my 24th birthday. I am a volunteer youth pastor at this mega church for 7th grade girls. Sunday morning (the day of my birthday) they surprised me with treats and ran around the atrium/service with a sign that said “Happy Birthday Victoria” and this made me smile like no tomorrow. A group of 12 year old girls truly made my day.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY!!! 23 is soooo much fun, I can’t even tell you!!! I’ve had some CRAZY birthdays… At 14 my Nana took me to “Gymboree” and told me that she expected a grandchild that year, then made me promise that there would be no babies before bachelors (bachelors degree that is) do that was pretty unique in experience alone. But my favorite of the unique gifts is one I got when I was 5… It was this plastic flower that when it was motion triggered would dance. It scared the pants off me when I got it, I think I cried for hours!!! But now I wish I had it still!!!! Take care and make this year a great one!!!

    The most unique birthday gift I ever got was an old printing (not the original, maybe from the 1950’s though)of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (my all time favorite book!)with colored versions of the original illustrations and a faded hardbound cover in pretty pastels.     Happy Birthday! I love birthdays! They are a big deal in my world 🙂 One year when I was in high school, my mom was going to college and had a test the night of my birthday so she couldn’t miss class so she decided to throw me a surpise birthday party at 7:30 in the morning before school started and all my friends showed up and I walked out in the living room with a toothbrush in my mouth and all my friends shouted “Surprise!” It was awesome! I think that was also the year that I recieved new pots and pans for my birthday. Pots and Pans are not a normal gift for a 17 year old. 🙂 I should have known then I was going to be a total foodie for life 🙂

    This might not seem like much to any one else but the most amazing gift I received for my birthday was the company of my husband earlier this year when I turned 22. Cheesy I know but growing up my sister and I were truly spoiled brats and went to Disneyland every year for each of our birthdays on top of other materialistic gifts. My parents always tried to out do themselves every year working extremely hard to give us a life they didn’t have growing up themselves. My husband is currently a US Marine in the Infantry and is about to deploy again here shortly. Time is very precious to us and we are grateful for any time we have together. This year was the first birthday we have shared together in the past three years along with many other missed holidays. We ran away to his Nana’s house and just spent the weekend together hanging out:]

    The most unique thing I received on my birthday was a Swarovski crystal pen with a Hello Kitty charm on it. My niece and nephew gave it to me so I can grade my students’ papers in style (I’m an English teacher).

    My dad took me out on a Daddy Date for one of my birthdays as a teenager. My parents didn’t have a lot of money so they did special things that we’d remember fondly later.

    We went to the local grocery and my dad bought two things that I’d never had before that he had always loved: pickled eggs from the deli, and reddi whip! We didn’t want to wait to eat the eggs, so we ate them in the parking lot. Then on the drive home my dad pulls out the cans of reddi whip, opens one, tips it up and starts filling his mouth while he’s driving! It made me laugh so I did the same. We were laughing and spraying reddi whip in our mouths all the way home. When we got home and mom asked what we did I’m sure you can imagine the grossed out look on her face when we said we had pickled eggs and reddi whip 🙂

    Happy Birthday! So how old are you in bunny years? 😀 I live on 15 acres and I guess you could say my family kind of has a hobby farm with goats, two ponies, chickens and of course cats and dogs. I never thought of myself as much of a farm girl but sure enough, a childhood friend thought overalls were the best birthday present ever for a nine year old.     last year for my birthday, my friends surprised me by squirting me all over with silly string and then i got about 10 different presents from the dollar store..including canned sausage, sardines, mens underwear and a kindergarten learning DVD. it’s our tradition for each other every year now:)

    Happy Birthday! When I was 5 years old we had my birthday party. I didn’t like my picture being taken so I thought if I closed my eyes they couldn’t take my picture. lol For all these years when we look thru family photos I am reminded of this.     The most unique gift I received for my birthday was made by 2 of my sisters. They made me a tank top w my nieces and nephews handprints, names and ages! It is so cool I try not to wear it so much because their hand prints are so tiny and precious. I even saved the wrapping because the kiddies drew on the paper and the bag as well as wrote little “messages”! So cute! Hope you enjoy your birthday! 🙂

    My most unique present occured a couple of years ago when I friend gave me a “Panic Button”. I was really stressing about school and it was a big button like in the staples commercials that would say “Don’t panic, don’t panic, don’t panic, AHHHHHHHHHH”.     The most unique present I ever got for my birthday was a sulfur credit! I study environmental science in college and one of my friends bought me a sulfur credit off the cap and trade market thus no one can emit that sulfur into the air as a pollutant! Being a Southern California girl too, its great to know I’m preventing a little bit of that smog! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!     First of all Happy Birthday!! Best, most creative, & most unique birthday gift was a check from my Grandmother. But not a check for cash, a check for unlimited hugs, kisses and love, made out to me on her personal check, written in pink ink, decorated with birthday stickers and signed by “Grandma Punky”. What a great gift for any little girl and still my favorite gift!

    I think my most unique birthday was from my boyfriend at the time. He sung and played a song he had written especially for me on his guitar. The best part of it all was every line rhymed! Keep in “Mina” is not an easy name to rhyme with.

    Very cheesy but it was definitely a very sweet and unique birthday to remember.

    The most unique birthday gift I’ve received was actually given to me this year by my husband for my 24th birthday in April. I’m a big Elvis fan and he gave me an old vinyl record, “Elvis Forever.” It was so sweet, but now he has to get me a record player!

    I think the most unique gift I received was for this past birthday. One of my co-workers got me one of those Kit-Cat clocks for my desk at work. While a great gift on its own, the fact that she (I named her Felicia) was bright pink and sported eyelashes and a pearl necklace makes me laugh every time I walk into my office.     A few years ago for my birthday, I got a Cooler Scooter, which is exactly what it sounds like, a Scooter made out of a cooler for drinks! The best part is that you can open up the seat and take out a cold drink on a hot day. My mom has talked about going into business with our cooler scooter and zooming around parks or concerts selling healthy snacks or drinks to people who’d rather nosh on a nut bar than a corn dog. =) Here’s a picture of a cooler scooter:

    The most unique gift is a tie between my 17th birthday (Golden birthday, as my birthday is march 17th) and my 18th birthday!
    For my 17th birthday I will always remember receiving a remote control car after it was used in my spanish class to ask me to prom! What a wonderful gift!
    For my 18th birthday, I received a diamond bracelet from my parents, a luxury I am nowhere near used to getting. The best part was that it had aquamarine in it as well, my birthstone. I plan on someday wearing it at my wedding as my “something blue”.

    For my 21st birthday, I insisted I did not want the traditional alcohol related debauchery (that’s just not my style) and that I wanted friends and family to keep in mind I am still a kid at heart. They rose to the challenge and surpassed all my expectations! The decor for breakfast was Hello Kitty, I received a Tigger pillowpet and a trip to the zoo from my boyfriend, a Disneyland Season Pass from my boyfriend’s parents (omgilovedisneyland) and my parents allowed me to rescue a stray kitten (who is now 15 pounds!) His name is Poe and he is the weirdest most wonderful goofball ever. IT WAS AWESOME! Not only were the gifts unique and precisely what I wanted, but the sentiment and love of my family for my quirks fed my inner child and chased away adult woes with the reminder that even if you grow older, you never have to grow up 🙂

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

    2 years ago when I was very pregnant with my second child, my 4 yr old son decided he wanted to pick out a present for me all by himself. After shopping with daddy he very proudly handed me my present. It was a very low cut black bathing suit that had a tag on it which said (which he couldn’t read) “slimming”. To top it off it was about 3 sizes 2 small. It still cracks us up to this day.

    HOPPY BIRTHDAY! Okay, when my daughter turned 6, my parents (her grandma & grandpa) gave her a Dragon Fruit! That’s it! She loves fruit and healthy food, but even Hannah couldn’t hold back the tears after an hour or so. Ever since then, she hasn’t been able to eat Dragon Fruit and she’s 11 now.

    Happy belated birthday!!!

    So I asked my mom, “What’s the weirdest thing you ever got me for my birthday??”

    She replied, “A girdle… Oh no wait that was my mother.”

    We laughed over that one. But this past birthday my friends got me a cupcake gift basket of sorts with cupcake pjs, cupcake rubber spatulas, cupcake decorating tools etc. It was pretty funny and we made cupcakes for days!

    P.S. i LOVE the brownie recipe… i would LOVE a healthy cake recipe (if such a thing exists!)

    HAAAAPPPPYYY BIRTHDAY (yesterday)!!!!!!! The most unique gift (and after 26 years, it’s STILL my faaaaaaavorite) I ever received was from my Grandmother when I was 3….it’s a cassette tape that has one song on it. It’s a guy with a silly voice and all these “animals” that are supposed to be from outer space singing Happy Birthday to me. Yes, to me; Jesika. I thought it was AWESOME then and I STILL think it’s awesome. Completely ridiculous (if you heard the lyrics) but awesome, nonetheless. It’s the ONLY reason I still own a stereo with a tape deck. Just to use it once a year. <3

    Happy birthday! One year for my birthday my uncle gave me a petrified butterfly in a plastic box…a little too much silence of the lambs. We all still laugh about it to this day!

    The most precious and unique birthday gift I have ever received was on my 16th birthday. My mother gave me an ornate gold ring with the most gorgeous purple colored stone. I am grown now and moved far away, and whenever I wear the ring it makes me feel a little closer to home.

    I received a gorgeous ring from my father. It was an amethyst stone with a diamond on each side (3 stones all together). Unfortunately, however, it was a little too big and slipped off my finger while I was swimming at the lake. :/ But I have always and will always love that ring.

    Happy Birthday! The most unique gift I have recieved was a home-made collage of pictures of myself and my bestfriend from when we met in first grade to when we graduated highschool. Still friends till this day.
