Hi honeybunnies!

I had a super fun photoshoot with my friend Brett yesterday to photograph all of my new RFFMBT shirts! After traveling to San Francisco, Denver (twice), Palm Springs, Nebraska, Iowa, and Monterey,  I’ve finally had some down time to get the ball rolling on my shirts! Ohhhhhh my goji I’m so excited I can’t even stand it!!! I did Brett’s hair and make-up yesterday (she looks like the ultimate rffmbt bunny!) and then we blasted some top 40 hits while taking pictures. We had so much fun that I ended up with over 500 pictures! Oopsiessss! Now I have lots of sorting and editing to do in order to get my store up and running. Hopefully (cross your little bunny paws) that the new inventory will be ready for the store this weekend or early next week! Of course I will definitely notify you guys in a post as soon as they are up!

So I’ve seen this recipe for a healthy Frosty Shake floating around the interwebs recently, and this morning my friend’s mom (Brett’s mom, actually!) posted it on my Facebook! It was pretty much a sign that it needed to be tried. I had all of the ingredients on hand, so I decided to go for it. The end result? Not up to RFFMBT standards… It was a little too icy and bland for my taste, so I took to the kitchen to perfect a Frosty Light for you guys!

Frosty Light
Did you know, that a small Original Chocolate Frosty from Wendy’s has a grand total of 290 calories, 7 (g) fat, and 40 (g) of sugar? Yes 40 grams of sugar! OMG! Ya, I had no idea either. I’m usually really good when it comes to reading nutrition labels, but when I indulge in ice cream I usually avoid the label and enjoy. So when I do look up the nutrition information for things like this, sometimes my jaw drops! I forget how much sugar restaurants add!

Behold the Chocolate Frosty Light! Only 5 ingredients (well 6 if you count ice cubes) that you probably already have in your kitchen! Score! I’ve used a frozen banana for natural sweetness, almond milk for that rich creamy texture, and chia seeds for thickness! Chia seeds in a “Frosty?” You betcha! Chia seeds swell to about 10 times their natural size when combined with liquid, resulting in a thick gel-like texture. Blend them thoroughly in your Frosty Light and get a nice ‘n’ thick smoothie and an added bonus of healthy Omega-3s and fiber. Trust me, after they’re blended up you won’t even know they’re there!

Chocolate Frosty Light
Serves 1

1 cup original unsweetened almond milk
1 frozen banana
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp chia seeds
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
8-10 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth.

This sounds great! Perfect way to use up my almond milk before it goes bad and it sounds super filling with the chia.

a little bland maybe, but not disgusting. I’d def try adding less ice next time. maybe start with 4 cubes…blend…taste and add more if desired. maybe even add a 1/2 tspn of pure organic maple syrup to kick the sweetness up just a tad.

Hi Connie! Chia seeds can be found at most health food stores like Whole Foods, Mother’s Market, and Sprouts. I’ve also seen them in the supplement aisle of Walgreens before! The Costco by my house had them as well! xo

I was doing some of my own research and the frosty that you are mentioning above is actually the nutritional value of a large frosty, the small Chocolate has 290 calories, and 40g of sugar which is still A LOT! But what I would like to know what is the nutritional value of the “frosty” you made?

Oh my gosh thank you for letting me know! I just double checked on their website and realized I grabbed the nutrition info for the small Chocolate Frosty SHAKE! Ooops! Totally different than the Original Frosty! I just updates the info in my post 🙂 What would I do without my readers?!

I just calculated the nutrition info for my version and it came out to 175 calories, 4(g) fat, 2.5 (g) fiber, 15(g) of natural sugars, and 4 (g) protein!

Hi! Thank you for this fabulous recipe, I will be sure to use it to tame my sweet tooth on a warm day 🙂 I might try adding chocolate protein powder for some extra protein (in replacement of the cocoa powder)! Anyways, I was wondering about the chia seeds…I’ve added them to smoothies before and they never blend in, just kind of sink to the bottom…Am I not blending long enough? Any advice?

Hi Lisa! Hahaha this recipe is definitely a sweet tooth tamer 🙂 I have a Vitamix, so it is really powerful when it comes to blending. You could try putting only the almond milk and chia seeds in the blender first. It might help to get them ground up! You could even try blending them dry (like a coffee grinder technique) and then add the almond milk and other ingredients! Let me know if this helps get your chia seeds blended in 🙂 xo

Just found your site. Wow! You made such a transformation. When I read your story, I saw some of my story in it. I lost a ton of weight and became kind of obsessed with not gaining even one pound. The only difference? I hurt my hip, stopped being able to run, and let that make me comfortable with gaining almost all of the weight back. I am back on track now, though, and truly inspired by your story.

Try soaking the chia seeds in just enough water to cover the chia seeds for 30 minutes. This helps them to swell.

to the people who were wondering about a banana substitute (I’m allergic too): I found some sites that suggested using greek yogurt or frozen applesauce or frozen pumpkin puree- i guess you get a better result if it is frozen. I haven’t tried either one, but I’m going to real soon. My take is that since this is a chocolate smoothie- the applesauce will enhance the cocoa flavor so hopefully it works.

Hey! Just did it and found a little bitter taste in the end . Was it the cocoa powder? Maybe the banana? I just added 1 Tsp of honey and now it’s better, but the honey masked a little bit the taste of the almond milk, so one must take it easy with the honey. Now the rest of the almonds I used to prepare the milk will be transformed into delicious cookies, gluten-free & lactose-free. Want the recipe? =)

It’s better to freeze the bananas instead of using ice cubes. I’ve used frozen unsweetened vanilla almond milk cubes also. Milled Flaxseed is good. Add a Tbsp of Peanut Butter. Keep the same amount of unsweetened cocoa ( non alkali processed). Then it really tastes like a fiery or a chocolate shake!

This was a good treat, I will definitely eat it again, but not as a frosty substitute. It’s only disappointing if you expect it to taste just like a frosty (it doesn’t really taste like a frosty at all). I used 4 ice cubes and it melted faster, but was less watery.
